Acts of Kindness for the Chawla Family

Jas Chawla is a member of the Starr’s Mill Panther Pride marching band and symphonic band.  His family suffered from a house fire over the weekend.  They will be living in a hotel until suitable temporary housing can be arranged.  Many have asked how they can help this family.  If you would like to provide a meal, there is a Meal Train link below.  It will give you all the information you need, as well as let you sign up for an evening.  If cooking is not your preference, there is also a Sign-up Genius link below for gift card donations.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Thank you for supporting this family.

Marching Band/Athletic Physicals

The Marching Band / Athletic physicals will be Tuesday, April 24 in the SMHS Gym.  Tickets are $20 (cash or check) and will begin being sold for 8th graders on Wed, April 11 at RSMS and 9-11th graders on Mon, April 16 at SMHS.  All marching band and color guard members must have a physical to participate by Mon, July 16.  Members can also opt to get a physical from their primary physician.  Also, physicals are active for one calendar year so if a student participated in a sport and had a physical after mid-November, that physical will be acceptable for this coming marching season.

Wizard of Oz Ticket Information

We are very excited to present the music to the spring musical production of Wizard of Oz!  Attached is the Wizard of Oz personnel as well as the schedule for which days certain students perform (because of multiple players on that instrument).  Students not listed will perform in all four productions. Tickets will go on sale to Pit Orchestra parents before the general public.  Here is the information concerning that pre-sale.

All orchestra families will get to purchase tickets this Saturday, March 3rd at 1:00 PM in the Drama Room, before they go on sale to the general public. There will be a limited amount of seats in the reserved section (center stage) for orchestra parents.

Parents will need to purchase all tickets with a check made out to Starr’s Mill High School. No cash or credit cards will be accepted for pre-sale tickets.

General admission tickets for family and friends are $12/adult and $10/student. Please make your families aware they will have to wait in the line in the lobby prior to the start of the show. However, their tickets will be marked as orchestra families and they will be ushered to the rows closest to the orchestra pit once they enter the auditorium, if they arrive 30 minutes or more prior to the show. Parents and families are welcome to sit in any general admission seat once they enter the auditorium.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email at

We are very excited to offer this opportunity to our Booster Club members. We thank you for your continued support of the SMHS Drama program.

Kennesaw State Brass Blast 2018

Hey all!

My name is Dr. Doug Lindsey, and I am the Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Director of Brass Studies at Kennesaw State. I wanted to email to let you know about our annual Brass Blast this year.  We have an incredible line up of artists, and a wonderful day of activities planned.  I’m most excited about having Allen Vizzutti in town for classes and for a concert.  The event will be Feb 10th and will run from 9-5.  It is open to all high school brass players and advanced middle school players.
If you could share the paragraph below with any of your brass players, I would be most appreciative.  We have a limited number of spots so please encourage them to act quickly – we opened it a few days ago and already have quite a few signed up.
Here is that event info:
This event will feature classes by world-famous trumpeter Allen Vizzutti, concerts by Georgia Brass Band and the Atlanta Trombone Ensemble, and masterclass sessions with KSU’s very own brass faculty.

Our event is February 10th, and it goes from 9-5 PM with a concert open to public at 4PM. You won’t want to miss the concert!!

Here is the information about the event:…/concerts-and-eve…/brass_blast.php

On this link, you can read about the guest artists, the faculty and learn more about the event generally.

We are accepting registrations starting today – you will want to move quickly on this as we have to cap it at 100 participants… we have had to cap the last few brass events because of turnout so please register as soon as possible!!

I look forward to seeing you at KSU Brass Blast!

Thanks for reading!
